Herndon had his best game of the year with a season-high seven catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. For that, Herndon is Jets Wire's final Player of the Game in 2020.
The Jets' No. 1 tight end finally saw a lot of opportunities in this game with a season-high nine targets. Herndon's previous-high in targets this season was seven, which came back in Week 1. Herndon took advantage of his chances to make plays, including a beautiful touchdown grab on a pass from Sam Darnold. He finished off his season with touchdowns in back-to-back games.
Herndon struggled to get himself involved in the offense this season. He came into Sunday's season finale with 24 catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns. Those numbers are way down from Herndon's rookie season, in which he recorded 39 catches for 502 yards and four touchdowns. Herndon only played in one game in 2019.
The 24-year-old has shown potential to be a legitimate weapon at tight end. He's a big body at 6-foot-4, 253 pounds. The problem Herndon had this season, besides not getting the ball very much, was that he often fumbled or dropped passes thrown his way. Herndon had two lost fumbles and four drops this season.

Next year will be a make or break year for Herndon as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. If he can have a bounce-back year, the Jets could extend him. But if Herndon flops like he did this season, he'll hit the open market looking for a new team.
